morePrime Minister Gordon Brown visits Liveline // 24/03/10
Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited Liveline prior to making a key speech in The Hub on "Building Britain's Digital Future". It was an early start for the Liveline team, arriving at 7:30am to await Mr. Brown. Walking up York Way, we first we saw the TV van outside The Hub entrance and as we drew closer we saw that the door was flanked by armed Police officers: this was going to be like no normal morning.
Inside was a gaggle of journalists setting up recording equipment, getting their seats close to the stage, Number 10's PR + events people busily making arrangements and tapping blackberries along with more senior government officials & representatives from business.
The motorcade soon arrived and Mr. Brown was swept inside and up the stairs. After meeting a couple of other Hub members, the PM met with Liveline's David Cairns who gave him an introduction to the company, mentioning
Liveminds
and
Reference Tree. Mr. Brown - perhaps in a nod to his forthcoming election campaign - joked about how the Liveminds web app, which can host ongoing conversations with groups of any size to gather key insights, "would have been useful" should he have known about it earlier. His interest was also clearly piqued by Reference Tree and he spent some time asking for detail about how the platform - which allows university students to buy text books by the chapter - was engaging with the academic community, before congratulating the project. With that he was whisked downstairs to deliver his speech.
